The YCC runs two primary programs. Descriptions and links to the respective applications are below. You can also request information here.
Our summer programs are in conjunction with the Lake County Forest Preserve (LCFP). The Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a program that offers Lake County youth gainful summer employment in the outdoor atmosphere of our county’s Forest Preserves. The program includes an environmental education and outdoor recreation component.
Work projects in past summers have included such tasks as developing nature trails, planting and maintaining native flora, stream bank restoration, basic outdoor maintenance tasks, construction of trail bridges, soil retaining walls and canoe launches. Additionally, workers will receive training in first aid, basic work and life skills, environmental construction skills and environmental awareness.
The 2017 summer program is full and we are no longer taking applications.
Youth Build & a 2nd Chance
In conjunction with YouthBuild, the YCC offers teens and young adults a program to meet their needs in terms of getting back on track with education, obtaining hands-on experience in the chosen field, and earning a paycheck while going through the process. Our participants learn trades in the construction, HVAC, and hospitality industries. The team at the YCC help our participants in terms of the whole person: work force readiness, mental toughness, counseling, job placement, ongoing support, and a family environment.
